Juliette Binoche To Preside Over The Jury Of Cannes Film Festival 2025
The Oscar-winning actress succeeds last year’s president Greta Gerwig
Today, the Cannes Film Festival named Oscar-winning French actress Juliette Binoche as jury president of the 78th edition of the prestigious film festival. Binoche, who first appeared on La Croisette 40 years ago with André Téchiné’s stirring Rendez-vous, succeeds last year’s president, Little Women and Barbie director Greta Gerwig. Binoche’s appointment marks the second time in the festival’s history that one prestigious woman passes on the baton to another. The first time was when Sophia Loren (Two Women, Marriage Italian Style) followed up Olivia de Havilland (To Each His Own, The Heiress) as jury president in 1966.
In the official press releasee, Binoche shared that:
“I’m looking forward to sharing these life experiences with the members of the Jury and the public. In 1985, I walked up the steps for the first time with the enthusiasm and uncertainty of a young actress; I never imagined I’d return 40 years later in the honorary role of President of the Jury. I appreciate the privilege, the responsibility and the absolute need for humility.”
It’s not the first time Binoche has taken on a significant position at an important film…
